they are dried leaves for sure, when I was a small kid, namely when she was a newborn, there was a college on way to our home back then and that college had a great stairway covered with leaves in the fall season and I loved treading on those leaves, it's a great feeling if you have brand new shoes and if you walk over them with those new shoes.
